A leak rarely starts where the stain shows up. Water gets in at a failed flashing or a lifted shingle, runs along the decking or a rafter, and drips somewhere else entirely. We trace leaks back to the real entry point and repair that, so the problem is actually gone instead of moved.
The work itself
Leak detection is detective work: we check the obvious suspects first — valleys, step and chimney flashing, plumbing and vent boots, skylight curbs, nail pops — then follow the water uphill from the interior evidence. Once we've found the source, the repair is done properly: new flashing formed and lapped correctly, fresh ice-and-water shield where it belongs, replacement decking if the plywood has gone soft, and shingles blended into the surrounding field so the fix disappears.
Problems this solves
The homeowners who call us for repairs have usually already paid someone once. A previous 'fix' was a tube of caulk smeared over a flashing that needed replacing, or a few new shingles nailed over rotten decking. Caulk fails in a season; the leak comes back; the ceiling stain spreads. Ignored long enough, a small leak turns into wet insulation, mould, and a rebuilt section of roof. Catching it early and fixing the cause is almost always the cheaper path.
